Nがあります / います
there is ~
あります for inanimate things, います for people and animals. Both take が for the thing that exists.

机の上に本があります。
つくえのうえにほんがあります。
There is a book on the desk.
庭に猫がいます。
にわにねこがいます。
There is a cat in the garden.
