90 minutes, three rounds, three clear conditions.
Both sections have to clear on their own. Bomb the listening and the total won't save you.
When. Twice a year, on the first Sunday of July and December. In India it runs through the Japan Foundation's test cities — registration opens a few months before each sitting.

Scoring. Two scaled sections: Language Knowledge & Reading out of 120, Listening out of 60. You pass with 80/180 overall — and you must clear both sectional minimums (38/120 and 19/60), so listening cannot be skipped.
Why N5 first. It certifies the foundation: both kana scripts, ~100 kanji, ~800 words, and the core grammar. Exactly the 1,012 items on the N5 path — nothing on it is off-syllabus.
